The global average connection speed in Q4 2015 increased 8.6% to 5.6 Mbps compared to Q3, according to Akamai’s State of the Internet Q4 2015 report, and although this isn’t even close to the FCC’s revised broadband definition of 25Mbps, it’s certainly another step in the right direction. Following the FCC’s decision last year to change the definition of broadband from 4 Mbps to 25 Mbps download speed, still only a very small fraction of the US achieves this figure – Akamai shows that not one US state achieved an average speed of 25 Mbps or higher.
