What no-one is telling you when they report on Nokia (read the Alcatel part of Nokia) trialing its XG-Fast technology at Deutsche Telekom, is that in order to install this technology it could require an entire replacement of the last 30 meters of cabling to the home, or the full effect of 10 Gbps home broadband might never be achieved. Nokia put out the release this week that a lab trial only, had been carried out on the turn of the year and that it went faster than 10 Gbps, but that’s probably not the deployment speed that would result from it, if our take on the technology is right.
