Sustainability is unfortunately still a cynically pragmatic concern in the wireless industry. Generally, it has been an easy PR win, as so few announcements show how MNOs will get to grips with scope 3 emissions, and where it was not a matter of public image, sustainability has only been embraced where it helps to cut costs. Of course, any uptake should be celebrated, but we must again stress that the majority of the current interest in green ambitions has had an ulterior motive – not an altruistic one. However, Orange’s recent announcement with Camusat does squarely aim at scope 3 emissions, in Orange’s EMEA footprint.
