Rethink expects flexible photovoltaics to become a full-scale market segment in the decades ahead using perovskites, but efforts are already being made with silicon today. This kind of product is useful for businesses and the residential sector in any heavily built up area – unlocking more roof and wall space for solar power deployment, even on a tiny “balcony solar” scale, not to mention non-load-bearing commercial rooftops in general.
