We recently spoke to Solivus, a British solar developer in the commercial segment, to discuss the situation in the lightweight and flexible solar industry. “We don’t do projects with conventional solar panels.” explains Ciaran Cotter, Solivus’ Technical Director. “Our main focus is lightweight solar systems development.” Solivus usually aims for 400 kW or above size – a lot of their focus is on airports, which have low roof loading. Stadiums and large commercial distribution centers like Tesco’s and Sainsburys are another typical customer type, often featuring large open-spanning buildings built to old regulations which didn’t account for heavy loads.
