India is heading for 20.7 GW of polysilicon production capacity according to India’s Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy writing in a missive to the country’s Council of States. More importantly the country is also heading toward 37.5 GW of ingot and wafer production capacity. That only means under planning or construction (mostly planning), but we do expect it to be built, because as we’ve covered over the years, the numbers simply add up – India’s costs are about as low as China’s, and its comparative weakness in experience and technology will be compensated for by tariffs and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) policy.
