We approached Verizon Business’ annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) with some caution, given that last week we covered Verizon’s widespread public network hack by Salt Typhoon. The latest report, however, comes from Verizon Business, and focuses on cyberattacks on global enterprises, not MNOs. Data was provided from the case files of the Verizon Threat Research Advisory Center (VTRAC) team, alongside over 100 global contributors and publicly disclosed security incidents, from 139 countries around the world. There are of course limits to this data pool. For example, the instances of espionage-motivated breaches from state-sponsored actors saw significant growth, rising to 17%, but this was, in part, due to changes in the makeup of contributors from the previous year.
