We recently spoke to Voltalis, Europe’s biggest demand response company, on our Rethink Energy Talks podcast series – with an emphasis on the UK market into which the company is now expanding. The UK’s strategic energy situation isn’t quite as bad as Germany’s, but there’s still been a crunch on the power supply which has seen some fraction of national manufacturing disappear. Expansion of each energy type in the UK has problems, and so we’re left with demand response as the solution – flattening demand from one hour to the next reduces how much generation capacity is needed.
