Swedish startup Modvion has announced that its latest wooden wind turbine tower design has received a design evaluation conformity statement from TÜV SÜD, and that it has been designed to support a V162-6.4 MW turbine. So Modvion is working to host one of the very largest onshore turbines coming from a Western OEM, in this case Vestas and its Enventus platform, although Enel Green power and Vattenfall are also backers. Modvion’s product is made of Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL), claiming greater strength per weight (and cost) than steel. Reduced weight means less stress coming from the mass of the tower itself, especially for taller towers.
